Disney+ brings the touching animated journey of Moon, a tiny owl stuck in the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, who finds friendship and adventure with a lost girl named Luna. Directed by David Lowery and produced by Alfonso Cuarón, An Almost Christmas Story features a star-studded voice cast including Cary Christopher, Estella Madrigal, Jim Gaffigan, and John C. Reilly.
The trailer for An Almost Christmas Story:
David Lowery on how he landed on the unique visual style of the film, directing vocal performances vs. live action, and which classic Disney animated movie ignited his love of cinema:
How did you decide on the cardboard-inspired visual style?
“I wanted New York City to feel handmade, and using cardboard felt natural. Growing up, I made everything out of cardboard with my dad. This choice drove the film’s entire aesthetic.”
What was it like collaborating with Alfonso Cuarón?
“As a cinema fan, working with Alfonso was incredible. He supported every iteration — even when it changed from live-action to animation. He helped me make it unique and encouraged me to explore what a ‘David Lowery version’ would be.”
How does voice directing differ from live-action?
“In voice work, I had to be more hands-on, often playing opposite the actors myself. It allowed me to direct with a more interactive, physical approach than I’m used to.”
Why do you keep returning to Disney projects?
“Disney movies ignited my love for cinema. Knowing that An Almost Christmas Story might be a child’s first movie experience is a privilege. I’m always mindful of creating a meaningful introduction to storytelling.”
The iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade® returns for its 98th celebration on Thursday, November 28, officially kicking off the holiday season. With millions of fans tuning in across the country and thousands gathered in New York City to witness the giant balloons, dazzling floats, and fantastic entertainment, the parade is a beloved tradition. For decades, The Walt Disney Company has added its magic to the event, starting with the debut of a Mickey Mouse balloon in 1934, joined by balloons of Pluto, the Big Bad Wolf, and the Three Little Pigs.
This year, Minnie Mouse joins the fun, making her first-ever appearance as a massive balloon! Floating above the streets of New York City, Minnie brings her iconic polka dot bow and yellow heels, striking an adorable pose for all to see. Measuring 60 feet tall and 60 feet long—about as high as a five-story building and as long as eight bicycles lined up—she’s also an impressive 34 feet wide, or the width of five New York City taxis!
Minnie’s debut comes just days after her birthday on November 18, making this appearance a truly special moment for Disney fans and parade goers alike.
