Space Mountain Turns 50

Space Mountain is a thrilling indoor coaster journey through space, inspired by the Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland. Walt Disney himself wanted to create a similar experience but with a space theme.

The first Space Mountain opened at Walt Disney World in 1975, and since then it has been built at Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris. Each version has its own unique features but they all share the same concept.

Space Mountain continues to evolve, with new versions and overlays being developed for existing attractions.

The most recent addition is TRON Lightcycle / Run at Shanghai Disneyland, which blends Space Mountain with a futuristic theme. Space Mountain has had a significant impact on the world of theme parks, and it continues to be a popular attraction for guests of all ages.
